India has lifted the duty ban on import of yellow peas till March 31, 2024, with an aim to stabilize pulses prices. The move, effective from December 8, 2023, has shifted the country from “restricted” to “free”.
In a strategic move to stabilize pulses prices, the Government of India has lifted the ban on import of yellow peas through the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). The move allows duty-free shipment of yellow peas till March 31, 2024, aimed at increasing the supply of pulses in the market.

Interest Equalization: Rs 2500 crore approved to continue the scheme
The Union Cabinet on Friday approved additional allocation of Rs 2,500 crore under the interest parity or subsidy scheme to extend pre- and post-shipment rupee export credit facility till June 30 next year. This move will help exporters from identified sectors and all MSME exporters to avail rupee export credit at competitive rates at a time when the global economy is going through adverse conditions.
Exporters get subsidy on export credit of Rs 1000 before and after shipment under 'Interest Equalization Scheme'. The decision in this regard was taken by the Union Cabinet under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to an official statement, “Additional allocation of Rs 2,500 crore has been approved for continuation of the interest parity scheme till June 30, 2024.”
