Swiggy told Tech News by Careers Ready that age verification and user authentication has been made mandatory during ordering to prevent misuse of this facility. User will be required to upload their Government ID while placing the order for age verification. The user will also have to send his selfie for authentication. Customer authenticity will also be checked through OTP during delivery.
Swiggy said that liquor orders will also be taken in a limited quantity, orders for liquor will not be taken more than the quantity prescribed by the state law.
Zomato also informed Gadget 360 that their company has started home delivery of liquor in Ranchi. However, Zomato has not yet clarified what steps it will take to verify the authenticity of the user. Zomato also informed that they are going to extend this facility to other cities of Jharkhand in the coming days.
It is noteworthy that a few days ago, citing the economic situation, the governments had opened ‘liquor shops’ during the lockdown, due to which people flouted social distancing. People were seen standing in long queues outside liquor shops. In such a situation, this step of Swiggy and Zomato will definitely reduce the lines outside the shops.
Surely this is going to be a big change for the food delivery industry, because currently there is no legal provision for home delivery of liquor in India.
