Popular short video platform TikTok has decided to wrap up its remaining business in India. This app of Chinese company ByteDance had a sales support team in India. This team was hired three years ago to support the company’s global sales teams.

“We have decided to close our remote sales support hub in India. We are grateful to the workers who have helped us during this difficult period,” a TikTok spokesperson said in a statement. Due to the risk to the country’s security, the central government had banned about 60 apps related to China about three years ago. These apps included TikTok. After this, ByteDance had significantly reduced the number of workers in the country. Before the ban, TikTok was estimated to have around 200 million users in the country. Many influencers in India also suffered losses due to this.

Apart from YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels, short video apps like Moj and Josh are also quite popular among influencers and video creators. Due to its association with China, TikTok is facing difficulties in many countries. It was banned for government employees in America at the end of last year. Employees will not be able to use TikTok on smartphones provided by the US government. The Committee of House Administration (COA) had given this information to the staff. TikTok’s app is being considered a big risk for cyber security in America.

The COA had told the staff that they would have to immediately remove this app from their handsets. If they do not do this they may get into trouble. This ban is not limited to COA only. This will apply to all organizations and agencies under the US government. Difficulties for this app are increasing in many countries. The main reason for this is that ByteDance follows the Chinese government’s policy regarding data storage, privacy and some other issues. TikTok has also been accused of misusing users’ data and other sensitive information.
