Indian Railways is reportedly developing an app that will enable multitasking. With the help of this app, users will be able to access various services provided by the Railways from booking tickets to checking their PNR status and tracking the train, all in one app. According to a report, the estimated cost of developing the app and running it for three years could be Rs 90 crore. However, it is not clear yet when this app will be ready and made live.
The Economic Times reports that Indian Railways is developing a “super app” designed to utilize services offered by apps like UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System), Rail Madad and National Train Inquiry System.
Let us tell you that among the existing apps of Railways, IRCTC Rail Connect is the most popular and used app. It has been downloaded more than 10 crore times. Currently this is used to book reserved tickets. Similarly, more than one crore downloads of UTS have been done. This platform is linked to tickets and season passes.
According to the report, apart from offering the functionality of the three apps mentioned above, the super app can also provide services available through other IRCTC apps like flight ticket booking, in-train food delivery and ticket purchase etc.
Officials say that while designing this super app, the possibility of its monetization will also be kept in mind. It is important to create value for existing standalone apps by bringing them on a common platform.
