SSC Stenographer 2024 Selection Process
The selection process for SSC Stenographer consists of 2 stages. Candidates need to qualify for both the stages separately to get appointed as SSC Stenographer 2024. Pattern for SSC Stenographer Exam Tier-I
It is an objective test which will be conducted online. There are 3 sections in Tier 1 exam of SSC Stenographer Grade 'C' and 'D'. SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern is given in the table below.

SSC Stenographer Tier 1 exam consists of 200 marks for 200 questions. The duration of Tier 1 exam is 2 hours. SSC Stenographer Tier 1 exam pattern is mentioned below.

important point:
- There is negative marking in SSC Stenographer Grade 'C' and 'D' 2023 Tier 1 exam.
- Wrong answer to any question will attract a penalty of 0.25 marks in all sections.
- The duration of the exam for visually impaired candidates is 2 hours 40 minutes.
- Questions will be asked in both English and Hindi except Part III.
SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern Tier 2
Only those candidates who obtain qualifying marks in the written examination prescribed by the Commission will be called for the skill test. It may also determine the qualifying marks in each part of the written examination.
- The skill test will be of qualifying nature.
- Candidates will have to appear for stenography test.
- The shorthand test will have to be done on a shorthand notepad and transcribed on the computer.
- The language of skill test can be English or Hindi.
The transcription time is as follows:-
- stenographer group 'D' For: 8 for minutes 80 words per minute (wpm)
- stenographer group 'C' For: 10 for minutes 100 words per minute (wpm)
important point:
- If the candidates do not indicate the medium of stenography test in the application form, the Commission will consider English as the medium of stenography test for such candidates.
- There is no exemption from skill test for any category of candidates.
- Candidates who opt to take the Stenography test in Hindi will have to learn English Stenography and vice versa after their appointment.
- Visually Impaired (VH) candidates will have to test in 75 minutes for English Shorthand or 100 minutes for Hindi Shorthand for the post of Stenographer Grade 'D' and in 70 minutes for English Shorthand and Hindi Shorthand for the post of Stenographer Grade 'C'. The subject will be required to transcribe the test in 95 minutes.
- The skill test will be conducted at the regional/sub-regional offices of the Commission or other centers decided by the Commission.
- Detailed instructions regarding skill test will be sent by the respective Regional/Sub Regional Offices of the Commission to the candidates called for skill test.
After taking out the shorthand notes, candidates will have to transcribe it on the computer. The skill test will be of qualifying nature.
