SSC JE Exam Pattern: Paper-I
SSC JE Paper 1 consists of 200 questions to be solved in 2 hours duration. SSC JE Paper 1 is divided into 3 sections: General Intelligence, General Awareness and General Engineering (Civil/Mechanical/Electrical). SSC JE Paper 1 is a computer based exam and consists of multiple choice questions. Candidates must appear in Paper 1 and Paper 2 in any one stream of General Engineering. Candidates should remember that There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.
- Paper 1 of SSC JE exam is conducted online and consists of multiple choice questions.

- It is divided into three sections: General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, and General Engineering (Civil/Mechanical/Electrical).
- The first two sections are common for all candidates. However, in the third section, candidates have to select their specialization from Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
- Sections 1 and 2 contain 50 questions each. These sections test the candidate's general reasoning and awareness ability and knowledge. Section 3 consists of 100 questions and assesses the candidate's knowledge related to the subject he/she has chosen in Civil/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
- In Paper-1 and Paper-2 for General Engineering, the candidate has to attempt only that part as given in the application form filled by the candidate.

- SSC JE Paper 2 is a computer based exam
- Types of questions: Objective type questions
- Time Duration: 2 hours
- There is negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer. (Revised)
- Paper 2 is a traditional type of exam, candidates have to choose subjects from Part A- Civil and Structural Engineering, Part B- Electrical Engineering, or Part C- Mechanical Engineering.
- Candidates are allowed to bring their own slide-rule, calculator, logarithm table and steam table for Paper II.

Important points to note regarding SSC JE Exam 2023:
- In Paper-I and Paper-II for General Engineering, the candidate has to solve only the option chosen in the application form filled by the candidate.
- Candidates appearing for the post of Junior Engineer (Civil), Junior Engineer (Quantity Surveying & Contracts) have to solve Part A (Civil & Structural) of Paper-I and Paper-II respectively, while Junior Engineer ( Candidates appearing for the post of Junior Engineer (Electrical) have to solve Part-B (Electrical) and candidates applying for the post of Junior Engineer (Mechanical) have to solve Part-C (Mechanical) of Paper-I and Paper-II. ), failing which their answer sheet (Paper II) will not be evaluated.
- For a wrong answer in Paper-I Negative marking of 0.25 marks Will happen.
- Candidates are allowed to bring their own slide-rules, calculators, log tables and steam tables for Paper-2 only. They are not allowed to use it in Paper-1.
- Scores obtained by the candidates in Paper-1 The scores will be normalized, And on the basis of normalized marks the final merit and cut-off marks will be determined.
- Performance in Paper-I + Paper-II On the basis of, candidates will be shortlisted for document verification.
