Latest Update (10th November 2023): Railway Recruitment Board, Eastern Railway has recently published the examination schedule for the upcoming examinations for the posts of ALP/Technician, Junior Engineer and Train Manager. According to the recently released schedule, the recruitment examinations for these posts will be conducted on 15, 22 and 23 December 2023.

What is GDCE?
The full name of GDCE is “General Departmental Competitive Examination”. It is an internal competitive examination managed by the Indian Railways, which aims to provide the underlying contractual examination to the eligible employees of various departments to get opportunities for promotion to the posts and those who wish to rise to higher posts. The General Departmental Competitive Examination (GDCE) program was first instituted in 1993 with the objective of filling 25% net direct recruitment quota vacancies in critical safety related posts, such as Junior Engineer, Assistant Loco Pilot, Technician Grade-III , and in important posts like Guard/Train Manager.
