World Students Day 2023: World Students Day 2023 is celebrated every year on 15 October to coincide with the birth anniversary of eminent scientist, former President and teacher Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. The festival extends beyond the borders of India and resonates globally. The primary objective of celebrating this day is to pay tribute and recognize the remarkable works, achievements and contributions of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam to the field of education and the welfare of students. Dr. Kalam, who served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. He was famous not only for his important political role but also for his affection and commitment towards students. His unwavering focus on enhancing the quality of education for students remains a key aspect of his legacy.

World Students Day 2023: History

World Students Day is being celebrated since 15 October 2010, when the United Nations declared it as World Students Day. 15 October Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s birthday, which occurred on the same date in 1931 in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu (Madras). Avul Pakir Jainul Abedin Abdul Kalam is also known as the “Missile Man of India” as he was a prominent aerospace scientist and teacher and through his work he contributed to the development of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). And contributed towards the Indian Air Force. When he was working in DRDO, he led the Integrated Guided Missile Development Program (IGMDP) which aimed to develop five different missiles namely Prithvi, Agni, Trishul, Akash, and Nag.

Importance of World Students Day

The importance of celebrating World Students Day is to make the society aware about education and students, because students are the future of the country. October 15 is celebrated as World Students Day to pay tribute or honor the contribution of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. He is an inspiration to students all over the world. The importance of celebrating this day is as follows.

This theme has been started by the Ministry of Education and Government of India to motivate the students. On the occasion of World Students Day 2023, many programs, campaigns are organized in schools, government and private organizations to raise awareness about education, its importance to our lives and many discussions are also held on this day.
