Children’s Day 2023 History
The first Children’s Day was celebrated on 5 November 1948, when the Indian Council of Child Welfare celebrated the day as “Flower Day”. They sold flower tokens to raise money for the United Nations Appeal for Children. This initiative was started to help underprivileged children. Later, on 30 July 1949, the day gained immense popularity when it was highlighted on radio, films, articles etc. In 1951, V. M. Kulkarni, a social welfare representative of the United Nations, thought of underprivileged children and recommended celebrating the birth of Pandit Nehru. Date as Flag Day. In 1954, Nehru’s birthday was officially designated as “Children’s Day”. In 1957, 14 November was effectively declared as Children’s Day in India.
