Zomato has announced that it has started delivering groceries in more than 80 cities across India to help people continue to get essential items during the ongoing coronavirus lockdown. The company launched this new service under the Zomato Market branding in parts of Kerala and Haryana late last month. Like Zomato, competitor Swiggy has also started offering grocery delivery for its customers. The company has had Swiggy Stores available to deliver groceries and other essential household items since February 2019. To help people avoid leaving their homes due to the pandemic, ShopClues and Paytm have also started delivering groceries through their platforms.

Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal through a blog post Announcement It is said that the company has started grocery delivery in India. The company has partnered with various local kirana stores, FMCG companies and various startups to bring new offerings to its customers.

Zomato users can avail grocery delivery through their app by visiting the Zomato Market section available on the homescreen. Apart from grocery delivery, Zomato has also extended Zomato Gold membership by two months without any charges.

Let us tell you that even after getting permission from the government to deliver essential goods, many delivery partners of the Gurugram based company are not able to fulfill the orders. They say that the police and administration are stopping them from making deliveries. Similar is the situation with Swiggy, which could not fulfill food orders during the initial days of lockdown in the country, whereas all these companies in the government’s list have been allowed to deliver.

Apart from Zomato, Swiggy has also launched a grocery delivery service in many parts of the country. The company already had Swiggy stores available to deliver groceries in some cities.
