World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) have extended their partnership for five years. This means that WWE Raw, WWE SmackDown, WWE NXT, and WWE specials will continue to air on Sony channels in India. Apart from this, SonyLIV app has been included in this new agreement, in which access to WWE Network will be given. This professional wrestling streaming business in India was launched in the year 2005, but later it was taken offline.

Sony Liv will feature WWE’s video library of content, including iconic matches, interviews with legends, live events, reality TV and documentaries. However, Sony has not issued any statement regarding how much will have to be paid for this. Currently, most WWE content is available to watch for free, including commercials. The annual price of Sony Liv subscription is Rs 499, but currently it has been reduced by 30 percent, after which its price has become Rs 349 per month. Such a step has been taken to attract people who are sitting at home due to Covid-19 (Coronavirus) infection and lockdown. Apart from WWE, subscribers will also get to watch English TV shows, movies, Indian blockbuster movies and live shows.

Rajesh Kaul, Sports Head and Chief Revenue Officer, Sony Pictures Networks India, said in his statement that WWE has consistently been in the top three rankings across all sports networks in India. It is dominating the sports entertainment space. He says, “We are very excited to expand our partnership with WWE as it will provide us with valuable content and increase our exposure.”

In their announcement, WWE said that they are planning to do many live events and promotional tours in India. Last year, WWE’s biggest event was held here, in which 4 out of 70 athletes were selected. Who were trained at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando and Florida, USA. India is very important for WWE, because this country is at number one in the ranking of Facebook and YouTube followers.
