A glimpse of the new feature has been seen in WhatsApp 2.20.201.6 beta for Android, which will be called ‘Expiring Media’. As the name suggests, this feature will make media files sent to users such as images, videos and GIFs disappear after viewing them once. Initially information about this feature was received through WhatsApp 2.20.201.1 beta. But now through the latest beta version, a suggestion has been received as to how this feature will ultimately work for the users.

This pop-up message will read, “This media will disappear once you leave this chat” (This media file will disappear once you leave the chat). This message will be visible to users on media files shared using the new feature.

Apart from this, in a screenshot shared by the source, it can also be seen that as soon as the user receiving the message leaves the chat, a bubble will appear on which it will be written “View once photo expired”. WhatsApp will also introduce a dedicated button for this feature, which will help in sending files while enabling the expiring media feature, this button can be called View Once.

The surfaced reference is part of the latest WhatsApp beta version, although this feature is not visible to end users. But, based on the information previously revealed, this feature is progressing, and it can hopefully be made available to at least beta testers in the future.

Apart from the expiring messaging feature, it can also bring some new features, which have been part of the app’s plans for some time. Last month, clear evidence of this was seen in WhatsApp 2.20.197.10 beta.

Let us tell you, the expiring media feature of WhatsApp is much like that of Instagram, in which photos and videos sent by users in direct messages automatically disappear.
