WhatsApp now seems to be more serious about phishing attacks than before. The Meta-owned instant messaging platform has made an effort to educate its users on how to spot phishing attacks by examining aspects like spelling and grammar mistakes in an unknown WhatsApp message. Additionally, the existing Block feature has been added to the lock screen of the smartphone, making it better and easier to access.
Now WhatsApp users can block messages from an unknown number directly from the lock screen without opening it. Apart from this, you can also block any unknown call from the lock screen itself. That means the user will not need to go to the app for this.
This is a good step in view of the increasing scams, because it is often seen that in messaging apps like WhatsApp, users often get troubled by spam messages or calls and some messages also contain such links, which allow attackers to take advantage of a single click. But are able to provide complete access to the smartphone.
From now on, whenever users see a spam message notification on the lock screen, the user will have to long press on that notification, which will show various options. One of these options will be block. After blocking, the messaging app will also show another prompt asking you to report the blocked sender.
At the same time, if you want to block a contact then follow these steps – Settings > Privacy > Blocked contacts > Add. Here, search or select the contact you want to block.
