Recently, Minister of State for IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar had said that his ministry will send a notice to WhatsApp on the problem of calls coming from unknown international numbers. He said that it is the responsibility of digital platforms to ensure the security of users.

In a program on Tuesday, Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the government has talked to WhatsApp about this. All necessary steps will be taken for the safety of users. He said that the instant messaging platform is ready to deregister those numbers which are being used for fraud. The minister also said that she is also talking to other messaging platforms including Telegram to remove such numbers.
In the last few days, WhatsApp users in the country have been receiving international spam calls. Many users had complained about this on social media platforms like Twitter. Unacadmey’s co-founder Gaurav Munjal had also tweeted saying what is happening on WhatsApp, so much spam. At the same time, WhatsApp has said in its statement that we are grateful for the minister’s acceptance of WhatsApp’s commitment for user safety.
