Twitter India has appointed a resident grievance officer to meet the new IT rules in the country amid tensions with the government. Twitter India has appointed a resident grievance officer, days after naming a chief compliance officer.

American social media firm Website on Sunday revealed Vinay Prakash as the new grievance officer. It also provided contact details and procedures for users to report potential violations of the site’s terms and conditions. On Thursday, Twitter told an Indian court that it would appoint an interim grievance officer to comply with the new rules. It also said it planned to make a final appointment in eight weeks.

The IT rules, which came into effect in late May, aim to regulate content on social media and make firms respond more quickly to legal requests to remove posts and share details on the originators of messages. But WhatsApp and Regulatory scrutiny of Twitter along with others like Amazon has intensified friction between US tech firms and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government and unsettled the business environment in a key growth market.

For a long time, there was a tussle between the Government of India and social media giant Twitter to regulate the content published on social media. New IT rules were implemented by the Government of India effectively from the month of May. Now finally Twitter has also accepted the new rules and appointed a Grievance Officer for their compliance.
