A report from the Intercept Citing an internal source, it has been learned that TikTok has given guidelines to its moderators that videos of ugly looking or belly fat people should not be uploaded to the app. The report even states that the company’s policy also prevents videos of poor people or people living in slums.
The report further states that only a part of this discriminatory TikTok guideline has been leaked. This policy not only contained guidelines to block videos of users who were poor, ugly or with abnormal bodies, but also included guidelines to block posts of people with disabilities and LGBT.
TikTok’s guidelines say that videos of poor looking people should be banned from the platform. In this leaked TikTok guideline, there is talk of removing videos made in broken walls or old looking houses.
Tik Tok has also given a statement on this. A spokesperson for TikTok told The Intercept that the company had created this policy only to protect users from bullying. It also said that such a policy was once in place with the company, but is no longer in use.
