of the analyst team at Netherlands-based threat intelligence firm ThreatFabric According, BlackRock was first spotted in the Android world in May. It is capable of stealing users’ information as well as credit card information.
While the BlackRock malware has similar capabilities to the average Android banking trojan, it still affects a total of 337 apps, which is significantly more than any currently known trojan.
This malware is designed to carry out tasks like overlay attacks, spam, SMS theft and locking the victim in the launcher. It also works as a keylogger, which helps hackers obtain users’ financial information. Not only this, researchers have also discovered that this malware has the ability to escape from antiviruses like Avast, AVG, BitDefender, Eset, Trend Micro, Kaspersky or McAfee.
According to ThreatFabric, the BlackRock malware uses Android‘s built-in accessibility services to overlay a fake layer on top of the original app, allowing it to capture information entered by users. It is specifically designed to capture user’s credit card information.
