WhatsApp has rolled out its multi-device support to a large number of users on both Android and iOS, allowing them to use their accounts on secondary devices without connecting their phones to the internet. This means that you will now be able to use the same account on your other devices and that too without connecting to the internet. Users can connect WhatsApp to four devices simultaneously. This feature works even when your phone is not connected to the internet. Even at that time you can send and receive messages from your phone. If you access Whatsapp on desktop or Mac then this update is going to be very useful.

Internal testing for multi-device support on WhatsApp started in July and a whole series of testing was done. After that it has been brought to the users. This feature gives you access to connect your instant messaging account to a secondary device – such as a PC, laptop or Facebook Portal. This enables end-to-end encryption, especially on chats using a secondary device. This means that neither WhatsApp nor any third party can read the messages you send or receive on your connected PC.

By providing standalone support, WhatsApp allows users to send and receive messages on their secondary devices, even if they are not near their phone. This feature also helps you stay connected to WhatsApp if your phone’s charge runs out.

How to link your WhatsApp account to a secondary device

Before we start with the steps below, it’s important to note that to get multi-device support and link your account to a secondary device, you’ll need to download the latest WhatsApp version (if you don’t have the latest update). This feature is also currently in ‘Beta’ and thus, it may face stability issues for some time. Apart from this it is limited to Whatsapp Web, Desktop and Portal. This means that WhatsApp has not yet enabled support for linking an Android phone or iPhone as a secondary device. You can’t connect your WhatsApp account to an Android tablet or iPad using multi-device support at this time.

You can join multi device beta by going to WhatsApp- Settings > Linked Devices > Multi-Device Beta
Once done, Linked devices Go back to the screen and then to link a new device Link a Device Tap the button.
Now you have to scan the QR code available on your secondary device to link it to your WhatsApp account.
After linking, WhatsApp will allow you to send and receive messages using your secondary device. You will also be able to view your previous messages from the secondary device. However, messages deleted from your primary device will not appear on the secondary device. Messages you delete from your secondary device will also not appear on your phone. However, this feature does not work with iPhone.
