WhatsApp Indian Alternative: We read a lot of big news in 2020 regarding data privacy. For this, the government ordered many internet companies to install their servers in India only. Then in September, banning apps of hundreds of Chinese developers in India and encouraging Indian developers to develop safe indigenous apps under the Self-reliant India campaign. A lot happened in the year 2020 and now the new Indian alternative to WhatsApp (WhatsApp Alternative) “Sandes” app has been launched. After recently changing the privacy policy, WhatsApp faced a lot of criticism across the world. Crores of users started using Telegram and Signal apps. In such a situation, now the government has brought a new instant messaging app Sandes for Indians.

Business Standard’s Report According to, the Indian government has launched the new Sandes app, which is an instant messaging alternative to WhatsApp. The app is completely Indian and is currently working on a trial basis. The report further states that the Sandes app, which is being called GIMS, is currently given to select government employees for use. This app is being called Government Instant Messaging System (GIMS). There is no information yet whether the app has been introduced only for government work or the general public will also be able to use it.

At the beginning of the year, WhatsApp had made changes in its privacy policy, after which the Facebook-owned company came under the scanner. After this, crores of users started using Telegram and Signal apps. However, the app developer had clearly stated that these changes were not for common users, but were made for business accounts. Nevertheless, the government raised questions about the company and expressed concerns about users’ personal information. It is possible that the Sandes app was launched due to this. Government work is sensitive and government employees getting access to this app shows that the government does not fully trust WhatsApp at the moment.

According to the report, this app works on Android and iOS platforms. However, the app is not available in the app stores of both the platforms. It is being given directly to government employees. Sandes app is designed like new modern chatting apps, in which along with chatting, there is also the option to transfer voice messages and media files.
