Facebook Messenger get default end to end encryption fo chat calls meta announced

Meta is bringing a new security update for users on its instant messaging platform Messenger. The social media giant has announced the introduction of default end-to-end encryption for personal messages and calls on Messenger and Facebook. The company claims that this feature will protect the user's messages and also make it more secure. The company is bringing this security feature after many years of effort and testing. Apart from this, the company is also introducing new features which will enable users to further improve their messaging experience.

Meta started a blog Post It has been told that Messenger has been giving users the option to enable (turn on) end-to-end encryption since 2016. With the new update, private chats and calls on Meta Messenger are becoming end-to-end encrypted by default.

Benefits of end-to-end encryption

The messaging platform already offers a number of privacy and security features including delivery controls. This lets users choose who can send them messages as well as includes an app lock. Apart from this, security features like block and message request are also available. However, a default end-to-end encryption provides an additional layer of security for messages and call content users share with friends and family. These messages and calls remain safe from the time they leave the user's device till they reach the receiver's device. This means that no one, including Meta, will be able to see what is sent or said. End-to-end encryption will provide users with more secure chats in Messenger.

Apart from end to end encryption, these new features have also been introduced:

Edit a message: This feature will allow users to edit messages within 15 minutes.

Disappearing message: Disappearing messages on Messenger will now disappear for 24 hours after being sent. Users will also be notified when there is a disappearing message.

Read Receipt Control: Messenger's new read receipts control will let users decide whether they want other people to be able to see their messages when they are read.

Photo and Video Upgrade: Meta claims that users share more than 1.3 billion photos and videos on Messenger every day. The company is now making photos and videos easier to access, advancing photo quality, adding attractive layouts and providing more control, allowing users to comment or reply to any photo or video in storage.
