400 apps are stealing your Facebook data! Meta alerts Google and Apple

Meta has warned its Facebook users about dangerous Android and iOS apps that aim to steal users’ login details and hack their accounts. The tech giant claims that more than 400 such dangerous apps detected by it are available in the official Apple and Google app stores. The company has informed the operating system’s parent companies Google and Apple about them and both the companies have reportedly taken action against them.

The company has also informed both Google and Apple companies about this. “We have shared our findings with industry peers, security researchers, and policymakers to help improve our collective defense against this threat,” Meta said in the statement.

Mark Zuckerberg’s company is also helping those Facebook users who want to keep their accounts secure. These malware-laden apps advertise themselves with attractive features like photo editing, game enhancements, business tools, VPN hacks, etc. The report further states that after Meta alerted Apple and Google, these 400 dangerous apps were removed from their respective online stores.

Meta said it would tell potential victims how they can avoid being “attacked again”. For this, the company is explaining to users how to better spot problematic apps that steal credentials for Facebook or other accounts. The company says that the meta system has led to dangerous activity and has also clarified that it is not necessary that the passwords of all 1 million people have been compromised.
