Most of us use WhatsApp. Most of the users now use this messenger to send messages, because almost everyone is present on it and that too on every platform. WhatsApp has been downloaded more than one billion times so far on Google Play alone. In terms of popularity, only Facebook Messenger is around it. After the introduction of browser version and voice calling feature of this app, it has become more difficult to ignore it.

For those who use this app every day, we have selected some interesting tricks for them. These tips will improve your user experience.

1. Mute group chats and notifications
Group chat notifications can be extremely annoying at times. If you are working then it is better if they are closed.

Android
Press the Menu button on the group chat page, then tab to Mute. Next set the time frame for how long you want the group to be in mute mode. You can also disable notifications by setting a time. This feature is also available on web browsers.

iPhone
Go to the group chat page, then tap the group subject to go to the group info screen. After this tap on Mute. Now decide for how long you want the notifications to be muted.

2. Who read your message in the group?
Two blue ticks show whether the other person has read your message or not. You can also know who has read your message in the group chat.

Android
Hard tap on the message you have sent. This will make an ‘i’ appear in a circle on the menu bar. After tapping on it, you will be able to know to whom the message has been delivered and who has read it.

iPhone
The Message Info screen can be viewed by opening a chat on a contact or group. In this, you can check the delivery and red notification by swiping your message from left to right.

3. Disable media to save cellular bandwidth
WhatsApp allows you to choose whether you want to download over mobile data or Wi-Fi.

Android
Go to Settings, then Data Usage. Here you will get the option of media auto-download. You can now decide on what type of internet connection you want to download images, audio, video and documents.

iPhone
WhatsApp Settings > Chat Settings > Media Auto-Download.

4. Changing profile photo and status message from desktop

This new feature can be accessed by clicking on the icon on the left side corner of WhatsApp Web. You can change your profile photo to one taken with your laptop’s camera or webcam. Profile photo can also be changed by taking a new photo from the drive. This feature also works in groups of which you are the administrator.

5. Disable last seen and red receipts i.e. blue ticks
In default mode, WhatsApp makes public when you last used the app. You can make timestamps, profile photos, and status messages as public as you want. On iPhone and Android you have to go to Settings > Account > Privacy.

You can also disable the blue tick, but remember that by doing so you will be able to get such information about others also.

6. Send a broadcast message
This is a technique of sending the same message to many people at one time.

Android
Go to Menu, then New Broadcast. After this, select the contacts to whom the message has to be sent.

iPhone
Tap the Broadcast List button at the top of the chat screen. After this, tap on the New List visible at the bottom of the screen. After this filter from your contact list and then tap on Create.

7. Migrate to new number
If you’ve changed your SIM card, you have a way to migrate your account information, groups, and settings. Keep in mind that by doing this your old number will be deleted. Also make sure that your new SIM is active and SMS and calls are coming on it.

Android
Menu > Settings > Account > Change number. After this, write the old phone number in the first box and the new number in the second box.

iPhone
Settings > Account > Change Number. After this, write the old phone number in the first box and the new number in the second box.

8. Send voice messages instead of written messages
This cannot be called a tip, but if you are short of time then you can send voice message instead of typing the message. Or you can use Google’s speech to text engine to get what you said in text format. iPhone users can activate the iOS dictation feature by pressing the small mic button.
