WhatsApp has made the fingerprint lock feature available for Android beta users. This feature has been available to iOS users for a long time. The new feature comes with Android beta version 2.19.221 of WhatsApp. But it is disabled by default. Users will have to enable this feature by going to Settings. After the arrival of this feature, WhatsApp Android users will get another facility to protect their chats. Apart from this, the option of ‘Show content in notifications’ has also been added. Now users will be able to decide whether to hide or show messages when fingerprint lock is enabled.

As we told you, the fingerprint lock option has come with Android beta version 2.19.221. It is disabled by default. Users have to enable it by going to WhatsApp Settings > Account > Privacy > Fingerprint Unlock. If you have updated your app to the latest version and this feature is not available, then we would suggest you to first backup the chat history, then reinstall this version of WhatsApp beta app. It is worth noting that to use this feature, the phone should have at least Android Marshmallow. Along with this, fingerprint scanner is also necessary.

After selecting the enable option, users will be able to unlock WhatsApp through fingerprint authentication. There are three options to automatically lock – immediately, after 1 minute and after 20 minutes. Users can choose any option as per their choice. If you choose the ‘immediately’ option, the app will have to be fingerprint authenticated every time you use it.

The iOS app also has a 15-minute option. But it has not yet become a part of the Android app. It is expected that the company will roll out this option with the stable version of WhatsApp. Show content in notifications is a new option in Android. When fingerprint lock is enabled, users will be able to decide whether they want to show or hide message and sender previews.

If you do not enable this option, then you will be able to reply to messages through notifications and answer WhatsApp calls as before. Because fingerprint authentication is set only for WhatsApp. WABetaInfo, which keeps an eye on the new feature of WhatsApp, says that when the fingerprint lock feature is enabled, the widget content remains hidden by default.
