Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has alleged that micro blogging site Twitter is working under pressure from the central government. The Congress MP has written a letter saying that Twitter has reduced the growth of his followers. At the same time, Twitter has denied the allegations in this matter and said that the company has zero tolerance towards manipulation and spam. Rahul Gandhi wrote a letter to Twitter CEO Parag Aggarwal on December 27. It said, I believe that Twitter is unknowingly complicit in curbing free and fair speech in India.

According to a news agency report, Rahul has said that his followers have become almost stable since August 2021. Earlier, his followers were increasing at the rate of more than 2.3 lakh every month. Within a few months this number had even reached 6.5 lakh. He has also sent the data analysis of his Twitter account. It is told that after August last year, the number of his followers has hardly increased. Currently it is 19.6 million.

Considering the decline in the number of his followers as not just a coincidence, Rahul said that many of his videos were also dropped. In one of those videos, Rahul Gandhi had told the farmers that all three agricultural laws would be repealed. That video also went viral.

It is noteworthy that Twitter had also suspended Rahul Gandhi’s account for about a week from August 6 to August 14. The reason for this was the tweet in which he had allegedly shared the picture of the family of a rape victim from New Delhi on Twitter.

In response to Rahul Gandhi’s letter, Twitter spokesperson has said that we also want the number of followers to be visible with the account, but we also believe that the followers should be genuine. Twitter has no room for manipulation and spam. We weed out bot followers and spam every week using machine learning tools. Twitter has said that we remove millions of accounts every week for violating our policies on platform manipulation and spam.
